Careers

GLWA’s team members are the backbone of our organization. The success of our regional water and wastewater systems is a testament to their hard work 24/7, 365 days a year. At GLWA, we are committed to investing in the next generation of water guardians through education, job creation, and research-based collaboration.

One water,
One Team.

When you work at the Great Lakes Water Authority, you make a difference in the environment and in your local community. “One water, one team” is more than just a phrase, it’s a way of doing business. Here, you don’t work for GLWA, you work with us.

Work while
you learn.

We partner with local area community colleges and organizations to sponsor registered apprenticeship programs that are nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor. These unique “earn to learn” opportunities provide a high-quality career pathway for individuals seeking to learn new skills while supporting the GLWA mission. Over the past six years, we have launched apprenticeships for Mechatronics/Instrumentation Technicians, Water Treatment Plant Operators (Water Technicians), Electricians, and Maintenance Technicians.

Get hands on experience.

At the Great Lakes Water Authority we offer paid internships across our organization. Internships with GLWA provide students and young professionals with real world experience and a glimpse into the premier water and wastewater service provider in southeast Michigan. You can make an impact on your community with an internship opportunity from GLWA.

“I see GLWA not only as the regional water/sewer system operator, but as a hub for effective coordination, planning, data sharing, and emergency response.  The One Water Partnership is the voice of that hub.  Bringing member partners together, quarterly, to discuss and collaborate on issues that affect our shared water resources and long-term community resilience.”

Michael Way

Public Works Director, Grosse Pointe Shores, GLWA One Water Co-Chair

As an intern at GLWA, I gained hands-on experience in a line of work most people (including myself) don’t think twice about yet depend on every day. Getting to work alongside dedicated mentors gave me the confidence to pursue and build my career in a field that truly matters.
